Comenius Project

Mr Renaldo Lawrence           International project meeting         Grace Millican,
Comenius website creator         Mettingen, Germany                Mr Lawrence and
                                                                                            Rosie Irwin

This project is designed to capitalise on what motivates young people and encourage them to share their interests and ambitions with students in other countries. They will be involved in learning about other cultures as well as teaching about their own.

It is also envisaged that they will emerge with a greater maturity and understanding of the practical and global application of new technologies as communication between students in the different countries will be mainly by electronic means.

Each student individually and each participating group collectively will form links with other cultures and gain insight into different ways of living.

The linguistic benefits will also be huge.

Each group will be exposed to learning basic phrases in the language of the participating countries, the Hungarian, French and German students will have the opportunity of purposefully spoken and written communication in English, and the English students will have to select the type of language they use for communication with other groups and be very sensitive to their audience, bearing in mind their varying levels for linguistic expertise.

The use of new technologies will ensure rapid feedback at all stages of the project which will in turn create greater motivation for the students.

8LBS is the lucky tutor group which has been chosen to participate in the Comenius project.  Featured are Kirsty Milne, Toby Leonard, Charlotte Vardy, Hannah Harvey, Sophie Fidge, Maddie Spencer and Matthew Stedman.  Our French, German and Hungarian partners will visit us from 11 - 15 February and will be hosted by members or 8LBS, but we may be appealing to other SJB students to help out with hosting.
